Maria is a Vinyasa yoga teacher with more than 500 hours of certified teacher trainings over the past years. She was introduced to yoga through the practice of Iyengar yoga more than 10 years ago. This practice provided Maria deep knowledge about yoga foundations and alignment. Today, these are some of her main areas of interest alongside the exploration of movement.
Maria has a passion for movement in general, be it yoga, dancing or hiking.
With an academic background in classical and contemporary dance and the arts, Maria discovered her form of expression and reconnection through yoga. Hailing from Alentejo region in the south of Portugal, she fell in love with the natural beauty of the Azores and the authenticity of the locals. Choosing to put down roots, she decided to develop her own project in São Miguel, merging her passion for yoga with the joy of welcoming people.
I'm Pandora Baptista and what brought me here was a tireless quest to understand what it means to live fully in my body in all its phases and rhythms. My path began in 2012 at ISCTE University, studying Psychology, but I realised that my curiosity and desire to help went beyond books and theories. In 2017 I decided to train to be a yoga instructor at the Ashram Yoga school in Carcavelos and as I deepened my studies in this vast and millenary area, I began to fall in love with Ayurveda. Having Indian roots, there was a calling to this ancient practice that led me very easily to take my first online course, during covid, in 2020, at a Dutch school, Arhanta Yoga.
Last year I thought it was time to fly to India, to Kerala at the Ayurveda Institute of Kerala, where I learnt from the people who know how to teach me best. This whole journey has brought me a deeper understanding about the connection between our physical body, our energy and our natural cycles.I am currently finishing a course to specialise as a Feminine Therapist at the Spa do Útero (“Uterus Spa”) school with Marina Almeida, which adds a new dimension to my work, to my purpose.
Not only do all these studies allow me to reach people and guide them through their own process, it has given me the tools to rediscover myself, to embrace myself. I'm the creator of the ‘Com Calma’ project, where I bring all this knowledge together to offer Ayurvedic consultations, treatments and massages, with the aim of supporting and guiding each person to find balance and well-being, to reconnect with themselves.
My events and consultations are an open invitation to men and women, to all people who are looking for a safe space to heal, explore and transform. I believe that together and "Calmly" (translation for "Com Calma") we can discover the path to balance.
My relationship with handmade cosmetics began when I learnt to make my first soap from scratch in 2019 with the founder of BARS - natural cosmetics. I was captivated by the idea of being able to choose the ingredients I use to wash and nurture my body, as well as freeing myself from the packaging and synthetic substances that inevitably make up most conventional personal care products. I have attended several workshops on the subject, but most of my creative process is self-taught and I like to make the connection between cosmetics production and ancestral knowledge, such as herbalism or Ayurveda. I have a degree in Sociology and a Master's in Development Studies in the field of Sustainable Development, and some of my life goals are based on reducing waste, conscious consumerism and having autonomy in production and knowledge. It's very empowering for me to know that I'm using and producing biodegradable cosmetics with carefully selected ingredients that nourish the human body and respect Mother Nature. I have facilitated workshops at various venues, including the Rizoma Cooperative, Casa Vermelha, Estúdio Lazuli and Ecolife Experiences.
